UPSIDE’s patent portfolio is rapidly growing, and as our IP Paralegal you will own management of the portfolio and outside counsel. As the third member of our growing legal team, you will be someone who is a self-starter, has meticulous attention to detail, has strong interpersonal skills, and has the flexibility to support a variety of legal needs. Responsibilities include

• Manage our Intellectual Property portfolio, including:

• Administering patent and trademark formalities

• Administering the inventor incentive program

• Managing outside counsel throughout the invention lifecycle

• Leading IP database management with increasing reliance on IPFolio and other long term legal projects that improve performance and efficiency

• Support various functions, including:

• Organizing and illustrating IP data in an easily digestible format for executives

• Supporting contract activities as needed, such as preparing and drafting NDAs, MTAs, and MSAs and general contract management

• Reviewing service invoices and ensuring costs are reasonable and accurate

About you

• Bachelor’s Degree and/or relevant legal education (e.g. Paralegal certificate)

• 5+ years of relevant experience in fast moving industries. In-house experience required

• Experience and comfort with intellectual property, including IP management tools like IPFolio

• Proficiency in Gsuite, Slack, and related software

• Experience reviewing and negotiating routine agreements

• Demonstrates integrity and ethics, with the ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information

• Meticulous attention to detail, self-starter, and strong management skills

• Ability to collaborate effectively and switch effortlessly between independent and collaborative workstreams

• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and finish projects on time

Who you’ll work with

• This role will report to our IP Counsel and partners with our commercial attorney, all future legal hires, and members from every other department who require either IP or general legal assistance

Key Contributions in First Year

• Provide improvements to patent docketing approach

• Manage all formal IP documents

• Manage inventor incentive program

• Fully integrate IPFolio

• Revise and enforce outside counsel guidelines and fixed fees

• Support contract services on an as needed basis

Compensation Range: $48,000 - $85,000*
*Pay may vary depending on factors including job-related knowledge and skills.
